Community Support

We need your help!

Schools are continuously seeking out additional community supports to improve SHSM programs in their area. The main goal for community partners is to provide advice on the program to ensure that students will earn an SHSM that is valued by stakeholders, particularly with respect to the programs’ required components. For example, industry members may provide advice about aligning students’ classroom experience with current workplace expectations.

How can you help or become involved?

Stakeholders are needed to provide assistance in areas such as: program content (e.g., input certifications & training), resources, strategies, initiatives and other relevant information to deliver value-added programs. Express your interest by filling out our sponsor form.

Examples of how community partners can assist in the delivery of SHSM programs in SCDSB schools include:
    • considering taking on a co-op student;
    • visiting a secondary school to educate a class(es) on careers offered in your industry and the associated job requirements;
    • inviting a schools’ SHSM program to tour your business or postsecondary institution to help educate students about essential job skills and  requirements;
    • delivering a training session at your local SCDSB secondary school, business or postsecondary institution (e.g., provide forklift training, showcasing vital software used in your industry, indentifying successful work habits, what you look for in an employee/student);
    • offering bursaries or scholarships for SHSM gradates;
    • donating and/or providing subsidies for schools to purchase tools/equipment to offer “value added” programs in your area.

The Simcoe County District School Board would like to thank our valued community sponsors for their continued support. Community support and guidance is essential for implementing “real world” experiences in all our SHSM programs that allow us to prepare our students for life after high school.
